Solvay Partners With Entegris on New Carbon Nanotube-Enhanced PEEK Products
Solvay Advanced Polymers is partnering with Entegris Inc.’s TEGO Polymers unit to develop and market advanced carbon nanotube-enhanced PEEK products suited for a range of emerging applications in the medical, aerospace, automotive, and oil and gas industries. Solvay will supply its KetaSpire® PEEK resin to Entegris who in turn will sell compounds utilizing its novel carbon nanotube technology (CNT).

GMD Inc. Launches First Reusable Trocar with Thermoplastic Handle, Reduces Cost by 75 Percent
GMD Inc. of Gig Harbor, Washington, has introduced the medical industry’s first reusable trocar with a thermoplastic handle. The company selected 20% glass-filled Udel® polysulfone for its strong chemical resistance, low shrinkage and excellent autoclave resistance (a minimum of 50 cycles). The plastic-handled trocar reduces cost by 75% over the previous all-metal version.

Marine Signal Lantern Features Turret Made of KetaSpire® PEEK
The TF-3B MicroPower OMNIBUS® II Flasher/Lampchanger from Tideland Signal Corp., Houston, features a turret made of 30% glass-filled KetaSpire® PEEK resin for high-heat resistance and exceptional dimensional stability. The solid-state flasher and six-place lampchanger is an integral component in Tideland Signal’s marine signal lanterns which are used for navigational purposes at ports and harbors throughout the world.

AvaSpire® Modified PEEK to Replace Standard PEEK in Compressor Valve Plates
AvaSpire® modified PEEK will replace standard PEEK in compressor valve plates at a northern Wyoming gas processing plant. The material switch follows a 14-month test and evaluation during which AvaSpire valve plates earned high marks in terms of performance with no problems or failures.

Solvay Advanced Polymers has selected Ashland Distribution as the sole authorized distributor for Amodel® polyphthalamide (PPA) resins in North America.
Effective May 1, Ashland will become the North American distributor for a core group of Amodel grades in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Puerto Rico. These 21 workhorse materials consist of glass-reinforced, glass/mineral-filled, toughened, flame-retardant, and structural grades for injection molding uses. |

Low-Profile Side View LED Made of Amodel® PPA Is the Industry's Thinnest
Japanese molder Nissei Industries Ltd. has produced the industry’s thinnest low-profile side view light-emitting diode (LED) for use on thin-profile mobile phones. The 0.4-mm-high LED made of Amodel® A-4422 LS WH118 polyphthalamide (PPA) resin from Solvay Advanced Polymers sets a new mark for side view LEDs, which until now have been limited to 0.5 mm to 0.8 mm in size.

New ultrasound transducer housings from Britek SA, Inc., San Antonio, Texas, are made of large-diameter, 30% carbon fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone (PEEK) rod from Drake Plastics Ltd. Co., Cypress, Texas, for high strength and outstanding heat and chemical resistance. The 2-inch diameter rod, made of Solvay's KetaSpire® KT-820 CF30 PEEK resists cracking due to the material’s high elongation and toughness. Ultrasound transducer housings made of PEEK rod withstand the harsh operating conditions found in inspection tools used to detect flaws and cracks in pipelines used in the petrochemical industry. |
