• PVDC is a remarkable barrier. PVDC offers a combination of water vapor and oxygen barrier properties that is unique among thermoplastic polymers. It assures hygienic, long-term storage of foods and drugs, and is also an impressive barrier to oils, greases, chemicals, and to other gases and odors.
• PVDC film is transparent and glossy. It is printable, and has good slip properties. It is an excellent thermoforming material and runs easily on high-speed packaging lines. It can be used to enhance the properties of other plastic & cellulosic films, paper and metal foils.
• PVDC provides hermetic seals. PVDC is an excellent sealant, and can be used on both the inside and outside of packages. It seals well at high speeds, with no need for further sealing agents.
• PVDC is fully compliant with regulations for direct food and drug contact. PVDC complies with a number of international requirements and standards, including specific migration limits set for additives and monomers. It has been tested, evaluated, and safely used for over 50 years.
• PVDC barrier films are thin. PVDC constitutes only a tiny proportion of total packaging waste. Its properties allow for the development of lighter and simpler packaging systems, thus reducing overall packaging waste. PVDC-based packaging complies, e.g., with the European Directive on Packaging Waste (Dir 94/62): packaging weight reduction, no dangerous additives and satisfactory energy recovery.
• PVDC offers cost-effective flexible packaging. It provides an outstanding variety of properties for lightweight packaging, and has been used successfully for several decades.
