AvaSpire® Modified PEEK
More Choices for Performance and Value

AvaSpire modified PEEK (polyetheretherketone) is a family of proprietary PEEK-based formulations based on Solvay’s nucleophilic KetaSpire® PEEK resin. AV-700 products deliver comparable PEEK performance at lower cost. The enhanced performance features of AV-600 products (see below) give OEMs a cost-effective solution for applications where PEEK is over specified.

AV-700 Series

Lower-Cost Alternative to PEEK
Products in the AvaSpire AV-700 series offer comparable strength and modulus, along with equivalent or better chemical resistance over comparable PEEK grades at up to 30% lower cost. They bridge the cost-performance gap between PEEK and high-performance semi-crystalline polymers like polyphenylene sulfone (PPS), liquid crystal polymer (LCP), and high-temperature nylon (HTN).

AV-600 Series

Cost-Effective Solutions When PEEK Over Specified
Modified PEEK products in the AV-600 series offer enhanced performance in a number of key areas versus standard PEEK. These innovative formulations allow OEMs to attain the high-level of performance they need at a price that is lower than comparable PEEK grades.

Higher stiffness from 150°C to 190°C (302°F to 374°F) extends the useful range of PEEK-based compounds above 150°C, which until today has been the practical upper limit for standard unfilled PEEK. AvaSpire AV-651 has a modulus twice that of unfilled PEEK at 180°C (356°F) and AV-651 GF30 is 30% higher than comparable PEEK material at this same temperature.

Enhanced ductility and toughness is most apparent in unfilled grades which exhibit 20% higher tensile elongation at yield, along with tensile elongation at break values at least twice as high as comparable PEEK grades.

Improved flame retardancy enables unfilled grades to attain a UL 94 V0 rating at 0.8 mm.

Excellent aesthetics and colorability can be achieved due to the resin’s light, uniform color.

Most AV-600 products offer chemical resistance that is nearly equivalent to that of PEEK. Their melt viscosities are similar to PEEK and they can be easily extruded into films of various thicknesses. Processing advantages include reduced warpage and improved ability to achieve tight dimensional tolerances.
