  Plastics for Healthcare

Solvay’s healthcare plastics continue to find more uses in medical and dental applications by replacing metal, glass and other traditional materials in single-use and reusable instruments and devices. They offer strong, lightweight performance along with design flexibility and ease of fabrication. Plus, OEMs can easily differentiate their products and brands using opaque and transparent colors.

Based on biocompatibility testing as defined by ISO 10993-1, our healthcare plastics demonstrate no evidence of cytotoxicity, sensitization, intracutaneous reactivity or systemic toxicity. These materials can be sterilized using conventional sterilization methods, including steam, ethylene oxide vaporized hydrogen peroxide and gamma radiation.

Solviva® Biomaterials are offered for use in implantable medical devices for short-term and long-term use. Udel® polysulfone has become the polymer of choice for dialysis membranes, which serve as artificial kidneys for a growing number of our population.
