Creating the perfect car. One part at a time.

Building the perfect automobile is every design engineer's dream. But to make this a reality, every part has to perform. No compromises. No failures. That's where Solvay Advanced Polymers can make the difference. We have the high-performance plastics you need for virtually unstoppable performance in a variety of systems including heating and cooling, air induction, fuel, electrical, electronics, and more.

AMODEL polyphthalamide (PPA) offers excellent long-term thermal performance. Exceptional strength. Superior hydrolytic and dimensional stability over conventional polyamides. Compatibility with aggressive automotive fluids, including fuels and OAT coolants. Plus, AMODEL resin offers up to 50% less weight and 10-30% less cost per part compared to aluminum.

Earning the mark of an extreme champion, TORLON polyamide-imide offers exceptional strength at high temperature with excellent resistance to creep, wear and chemicals including organic solvents. Yet parts made from TORLON resin are lightweight - a major advantage over metal parts. Automotive transmissions and off-highway equipment - including hydraulic parts, seal rings, washers and bushings - can last longer when made from TORLON resins.

Due to its glass transition temperature of approximately 85°C (185°F), IXEF polyarylamide resin offers remarkable rigidity for a polymeric material. This characteristic along with its high strength, low creep, low water absorption, and excellent surface finish makes the material an excellent candidate for metal replacement in automotive.

For severe applications requiring repeated sterilization or uncompromising toughness, RADEL R polyphenylsulfone stands out. With its high heat deflection temperature of 405°F (207°C), it can withstand continuous exposure to heat and still absorb tremendous impact without deflecting or breaking. Plus its chemical resistance surpasses that of most amorphous polymers.

Our workhorse resin in this category is UDEL polysulfone, which excels in many fluid-handling applications. This tough, rigid, high-strength thermoplastic has a heat deflection temperature of 343°F (174°C), and maintains its properties over a wide temperature range.

The systems that can benefit from the use of Solvay Advanced Polymers' materials include: air induction, bobbins, body, cooling and heating, electrical connectors, electrical motor parts, electronic housings, forward lighting fuel systems, drivetrain, and sensors.
